Alberta Premier Jason Kenney announced Thursday the province will be accepting help from the federal government, Canadian Red Cross and Newfoundland and Labrador to protect the health-care system amid the COVID-19 fourth wave.

According to a press release from the Alberta government, the Canadian Armed Forces will deploy up to 10 ICU-trained staff and the Canadian Red Cross will deploy 20 ICU-trained staff with various levels of training.

The Government of Newfoundland and Labrador will be sending a team of six ICU-trained staff.

Kenney also announced a new proof of COVID-19 vaccination policy for public servants.

Employees have until Nov. 30 to submit proof of vaccination. Those that do not will be required to obtain an exemption or a negative test result within 72 hours of every shift.

Effective Dec. 14, these tests will be required and paid for by employees, according to a government press release.
