Workers packed up and shipped out Moderna’s COVID-19 vaccine, the second coronavirus vaccine to receive approval in the U.S., where cases of the novel coronavirus continue to climb.

U.S. officials said it was expected people across the U.S. would receive the first shot of the Moderna vaccine on Monday.

Some states, meanwhile, are choosing to use the Moderna vaccine for harder-to-reach rural areas because doses can be stored for 30 days in standard-temperature refrigerators.

The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine must be stored in much colder temperatures and will only last five days in standard refrigerator temperatures.
The United States has more than 17 million cases of the novel coronavirus and more than 300,000 deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University.
