Coronavirus: Canada's procurement minister says vaccine delays "behind us," on track for rollout

Canada's Public Services and Procurement Minister Anita Anand told Global News on Wednesday that the delays the country has seen with COVID-19 vaccines are "behind us," and based on upcoming deliveries including more than 640,000 doses this week, they are still on track for their planned vaccination timelines.

She also addressed a question on whether Canada had given up its right to sue vaccine manufacturers should any further delays take place, saying that lawsuits would not bring vaccines to the country "any more quickly". She said they need to maintain a solid relationship with the manufacturers to ensure they abide by their commitments.

Anand also spoke about the overall effort by Canada, stressing they are on track to deliver six million vaccines this quarter as promised and "ultimately 84 million" as part of the country's vaccine rollout. She also said it's expected as more vaccines "come online," such as Johnson & Johnson and AstraZeneca, it will mean more vaccines in Canada if approved.
