Some Canadians are frustrated after some cruise lines in the United States issued policies stating they do not recognize mixing-and-matching of COVID-19 vaccines as being fully vaccinated.

Thousands of Canadians heeded the call to mix-and-match their doses as the country faced vaccine supply issues; that call was bolstered when the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) not only said mixing-and-matching was acceptable but recommended it when the first dose was a viral vector vaccine, like AstraZeneca.

However, policies from Norwegian Cruise Line, Princess Cruises, Holland America Line, Celebrity Cruises and Carnival Cruise Line either state the companies do not accept mixing-and-matching of any kind, whether Pfizer with Moderna, or mixing-and-matching of a viral vector vaccine with an mRNA vaccine specifically, such as AstraZeneca with Pfizer or Moderna.
