WHO cautions against mixing COVID-19 vaccines, even as some experts say it's safe

A new message from the World Health Organization's (WHO) chief scientist Dr. Soumya Swaminathan created confusion, especially for Canadians, after they advised not to mix and match COVID-19 vaccines, saying there was not enough data to support the medical efficacy of the method.

But in Canada, hundreds of thousands of people followed the government's recommendation to mix and match vaccines, such as AstraZeneca followed by an mRNA vaccine. The National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) advised it was safe to do so, and Nova Scotia's chief medical officer of health Dr. Robert Strang agreed, adding there was "clear evidence" the two mRNA vaccines could also be mixed.

As Jamie Mauracher reports, the mixed messaging is doing little to help vaccine hesitancy.
