Is mixing COVID-19 vaccines safe? Canada “very closely” watching data

Even as Canadians are lining up to get their dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, there are still questions about when they will be able to get their second shot, given most provinces are set to administer a second dose after four months. That wait time could potentially be shortened if enough vaccines come into the country, but for now, everyone has to wait.

However, there is talk about the second dose not necessarily being the same type as the first received, also known as "vaccine mixing."

There are studies underway, including one in the U.K., are looking at how effective this could be, though generally health experts agree mixing and matching of vaccines should be safe and could even give broader, long-lasting immunity against the virus and its new variants.
