Canada’s Transportation Minister Omar Alghabra defended the government’s efforts to reduce delays at airports and passport offices, amid ongoing labour shortages.
“I want to assure Canadians that we are working as hard as we can with our partners to respond to these challenges that we’re witnessing,” he said.
Alghabra said the federal government has hired additional screening officers and bolstered staff in the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA). Health measures have been adjusted and in some cases removed to reduce delays, he said.
He said they are working with airports and airlines to address “the remainder of issues.”
