Canada’s chief electoral officer Stéphane Perrault laid out some of the changes his agency is making to the voting process, as the country continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Among the changes Canadians need to be aware of are those impacted by the vote by mail process.

The counting of mail-in ballots will begin after election day, Perrault explained. In most jurisdictions it should take only two days to count these ballots, but If there is a large volume of mail-in ballots it could take as long as five days in some jurisdictions.

In terms of safety protocols at the polls, voters are being asked to follow provincial mask mandates. Plexi-glass dividers will be present and sanitation measures will be in place.
