Boris Johnson has promised that hundreds of thousands of people will be given the coronavirus vaccine by the middle of January.

It’s been announced that the army being brought in to help keep up the pace of the rollout across the UK after some criticisms that the programme has not yet gathered pace.

The UK government has promised that all care home residents will have been offered a vaccine by the end of January, and 13 million vulnerable people in total by mid-February.

It came as NHS England warned that every region had more Covid patients in hospital than at the peak of the first wave of the pandemic in April 2020.

Sophie Raworth presents BBC News at Ten reporting by medical editor Fergus Walsh and health correspondent Dominic Hughes.
