Excruciating delays are plaguing travellers at Canadian airports, as pandemic protocols and staff shortages cause long lines and even some flight cancellations.

At Toronto Pearson International Airport, the number of international flights delayed on arrival jumped by 275 times in April 2022, compared with the same month in 2019.

The Greater Toronto Airports Authority also says it held 2,204 planes from abroad on the tarmac last April versus just eight in the same period before the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abigail Bimman reports on the sky-high frustration among passengers, including former NHL player Ryan Whitney, why it may get worse before it gets better and how the federal government hopes to address ongoing delays with passport renewals.
