U.S. President Joe Biden called for “peace and calm” on Monday following the shooting of Daunte Wright, a Black man, in Brooklyn Center, Minn during a traffic stop. He said the results of an investigation would determine whether the shooting was accidental.

Biden said he had not spoken with the family of Daunte Wright, but said his “prayers are with the family.”

“The anger, pain and trauma that exists in the Black community, in that environment is real, it’s serious and it’s consequential,” he said, but added, “It will not justify violence and or looting.”

Earlier that day, Brooklyn Center police Chief Tim Gannon said he believed the shooting was a result of an "accidental discharge" of a gun by a police officer.
