Alberta Health Minister Jason Copping announced on Friday that the province is shortening the isolation period for those who are vaccinated and test positive for COVID-19 to five days, in line with recent guidance from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Copping said the new guidance would come into effect on Monday, and would apply to anyone who has received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine and whose symptoms have “fully resolved” after five days.

“If symptoms continue past five days, then their isolation will need to continue until they are feeling better,” he said.

Alberta health officials are also encouraging people to rely on rapid tests for confirmation of a positive diagnosis in order to relieve pressure on COVID-19 testing centres and manage outbreaks in high-risk settings.
