Ontario's chief medical officer of health Dr. Kieran Moore announced the province was scrapping its mandatory five-day isolation rule for individuals who test positive for COVID-19 as part of an "all respiratory virus approach".

He said individuals who feel ill should isolate while symptomatic, but can return to school or work 24 hours after their symptoms have ended.

During Wednesday's briefing, Moore also provided advice on Wednesday ahead of the respiratory illness season, including wearing a mask "when it's right for you" and to stay up to date with all vaccinations — including flu shots as well as for COVID-19.

Moore also said Wednesday that the province was expanding its first COVID-19 booster shot eligibility, with it being available starting on Thursday. This will mean all Ontarians five years and older will be eligible to receive the first COVID-19 booster dose.
