Following Canada ending its evacuation efforts in Kabul, Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino detailed on Friday the steps being taken to continue helping Afghan and Canadian nationals.

Mendicino said the country is working “tirelessly” with allies and partners, and secured 500 seats on a U.S. plane, which he said safely left Kabul.

"Even though the military evacuation may have ended, there is no end to our commitment to you, to your families and to the people of Afghanistan," he said during the briefing.

Roughly 3,700 people were evacuated by Canada during its operation.

Canada has left the Taliban-run country five days before American soldiers are due to leave on Aug. 31, after the two-decade-long War on Terror.

In addition, two explosions in Kabul on Thursday killed over 70 people, including at least 12 U.S. military members, and injuring more than 140 others.
