Canadian Gov. Gen. Julie Payette resigned on Thursday from her role as the Queen's representative in Canada.
In a statement, Payette said while "no formal complaints or official grievances" were made during her tenure, she takes the allegations seriously and says she is sorry and that a new governor general should be appointed.
The resignation and allegations, however, raise questions about why the government was unable to ensure such a high-profile position had the right person in the role. Mercedes Stephenson looks into these questions and what is next now that Payette has resigned.
