Canada is preparing for a major historic milestone on Monday, when Inuk leader Mary Simon will be sworn in as the country 30th governor general – the first Indigenous woman in Canada to do so.
But her landmark role comes on top of a long list of duties Simon has served over the decades – from an Inuit representative who challenged the former prime minster Pierre Trudeau over equality rights, to acting as Canada's ambassador to Denmark.
