As the commonwealth pauses to celebrate the longest-serving monarch, Global News’ Dawna Friesen sat down with Canada’s Governor General Mary Simon, the queen’s representative in Canada.
Simon called the milestone a “momentous time” in both Britain and Canada’s history and called her visit with Queen Elizabeth II “lovely.”
She also spoke about her role as the first Indigenous governor-general in Canada, calling it an “important step” as Canada works toward reconciliation with First Nations communities.
