Just over 100 days since the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, U.S. President Joe Biden promised voters that if Democrats keep both chambers of Congress following the midterm elections in November, his top priority would be to pass a bill to codify the 1973 ruling on abortion into law.

"The only sure way to stop these extremist laws that are putting in jeopardy women’s health and rights is for Congress to pass a law," he said, referring to recent comments by Republicans about passing a national abortion ban if they take control of the House and Senate.

In order to do so, however, Biden would not only need his party to maintain control of the House of Representatives, but get at least two more senators to have a chance of carving out the filibuster to pass the bill with a slim Senate majority.

Asked by reporters about Biden's urging people to remember how they felt when Roe v. Wade was overturned and if he thought the ruling was fading in people's memory, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said a majority of Americans have shown support for abortion rights.
