Trudeau says Canada will "never back down" protecting women’s rights on abortion

Reacting to a leaked U.S. Supreme Court draft opinion on the fate of Roe v. Wade from Monday, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said on Wednesday that his government would “never back down” on defending women’s rights in Canada and abroad.

Trudeau outlined steps that his government has taken to protect a woman’s right to an abortion, including funding for organizations that support women’s reproductive rights and research into access to abortion.

He also said he has tasked the ministers of health and women and gender equality to look at the legal framework that exists around reproductive health and abortion to ensure women’s rights are protected under future governments.
