The U.S. House of Representatives passed on Tuesday a resolution calling on Vice-president Mike Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Trump from office following the deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Pence already told House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Tuesday that he is opposed to invoking the 25th Amendment.

"I do not believe that such a course of action is in the best interest of our Nation or consistent with our Constitution," Pence said in a letter released by his office as the House prepared to vote on the non-binding resolution.

Already scheduled to leave office next week, Trump is on the verge of becoming the only president in history to be twice impeached.

His incendiary rhetoric at a rally ahead of the Capitol uprising is now in the impeachment charge against him, even as the falsehoods he spread about election fraud are still being championed by some Republicans.

The House will convene on Wednesday morning to debate on impeaching President Trump.
