The Chinese military dispatched helicopters to deliver supplies to Beijing's severely flooded western suburbs, state broadcaster CCTV reported on Tuesday.

Images on CCTV showed army personnel dispatching 3.5 tonnes of supplies that included water, food, and daily necessities to Beijing's mountainous Mentougou district. Many roads were damaged, stranding residents.

The death toll in Beijing rose to 11 on Tuesday with 13 people still missing, while in neighbouring Hebei province, nine people died and six were missing.

Beijing recorded an average of 260mm (10.2 inches) of rainfall from Saturday to early Monday, with the Changping Wangjiayuan Reservoir logging the largest reading at 738.3mm.
