Turkish security forces say they have killed seven fighters from a Kurdish group responsible for killing two Turkish soldiers in northern Syria.
The Turkish defence ministry says the two soldiers were killed on Saturday when their armoured vehicle came under attack from the YPG (People’s Protection Units) in the northern Syrian town of al-Bab.
Turkey believes the YPG to be the Syrian wing of the PKK, the Kurdistan Workers’ Party - a group that has been fighting the Turkish government for Kurdish independence for decades.
The PKK is designated a terrorist organization by the US, Turkey and the European Union.
