Toronto Mayor John Tory, along with Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) police are expected to hold a press conference on Thursday following a string of violent attacks. They will likely discuss transit safety.

Earlier in the week, the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) president John Di Nino called on all relevant parties on Wednesday to bring meaningful action amid an “alarming number” of increased attacks on transit workers.

He called on stakeholders, like the federal and provincial governments and municipalities, for an implementation of a national strategy to tackle violence on public transit.

The latest attack happened on Wednesday morning, where Toronto police said a suspect has been arrested after two TTC employees were allegedly chased with a syringe in the city’s downtown core.

The incident comes after a rash of attacks on TTC employees recently. Up to 15 youths allegedly attacked two uniformed TTC employees on their way to work by bus Monday afternoon.
