Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, alongside emergency officials, provided an update Saturday morning after multiple tornadoes ripped through the midwest and southern U.S. leading to at least 50 deaths across multiple states.

The tornadoes hit Kentucky, Illinois, Arkansas, Missouri and Tennessee late Friday and early Saturday.

More than a dozen tornadoes were reported with the primary tornado traveling more than 320 kilometres, according to Beshear.

Beshear said he saw first-hand the damage a tornado caused on an Amazon warehouse facility in Edwardsville, Ill. saying it was “awful to witness.”

"We're going to lose a lot of lives in that facility," Beshear said adding the situation is “dire.”

"It may end up being the largest loss of life in any tornado event in a single location again in the state's history," he said.
