Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said on Thursday that the death toll from tornadoes that hit the state has risen to 75, with 16 people still missing.

FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is receiving applications from residents for disaster relief to help pay costs of temporary housing and home repairs.

There are over 700 FEMA personnel on the ground to help people.

The governor said that state parks have been opened to host displaced people for up to four weeks.

He thanked President Joe Biden for his visit on Thursday, and his commitment to support rebuilding efforts.

Biden said the federal government will cover 100 per cent of the recovery costs for the first 30 days. This will include debris removal costs, emergency protective measures and direct federal assistance.
