The Colombian government says it has killed a top commander from the National Liberation Army (ELN) rebel group.
Angel Padilla Romero, known by his alias Fabian, headed the ELN’s Western Front and was apparently injured in a military bombing of that area.
Romera was found in the jungles of Choco province 10 days after the bombing and taken to a hospital in Cali, where he later died from his injuries, according to Defence Minister Diego Molano.
His death is a significant blow to the last standing rebel group in Colombia.
Al Jazeera’s Alessandro Rampietti reports.
