Throne Speech 2021: Opposition leaders critical of Trudeau government's proposed agenda

Nineteen months into the economic ravages of the COVID-19 pandemic, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is laying out a vision for rebuilding the country towards the “economy of the future.”

But the vision outlined in the throne speech on Tuesday comes amid growing concerns about the cost of living, housing affordability, and rising inflation — all while the Liberals yet again face the challenges of governing in an unpredictable minority government.

Speaking to reporters in Ottawa on Tuesday following the federal Speech from the Throne, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh said the speech showed a government that was "out of steam" and "out of ideas."

Bloc Québécois Leader Yves-François Blanchet was critical of the government's speech, saying his party would "live with" rather than "support" the agenda outlined in the speech, which Blanchet said "could have been written by a college student."

Conservative leader Erin O'Toole sought to reassure "everyday Canadians" that his party would work to support them as the official opposition and ensure their voices wouldn't be forgotten in government.
