Fallout continued at the Saskatchewan legislature on Thursday, after Saskatchewan party MLA Lyle Stewart invited former provincial cabinet minister and convicted killer Colin Thatcher to take part in throne speech ceremonies yesterday.

In the early '80s, Thatcher served as the Saskatchewan energy minister before spending two decades in prison. In the wake of his legislative reappearance, the Opposition suggested that Premier Scott Moe and the Saskatchewan government should be responding with an apology, sensitivity training and common sense —but no direct apology has been given so far.

Moe said the invitation is not one he would have made, that it was not a government invitation and that he regrets the distraction Thatcher's appearance caused from the throne speech itself, which he says highlights investments aimed at combating crime in the Canadian province with the highest rate of police-reported family violence.

Global's Connor O'Donovan has more on today's reaction from the provincial Opposition.
