After 11 years in federal politics, former Conservative leader Erin O’Toole gave his last speech to Parliament before retiring this summer. In a session that has been marked by heated partisan attacks, O’Toole warned members of Parliament that performance politics is fueling polarization and respectful debate is taking a backseat to social media gratification. ‘The West Block’ host Mercedes Stephenson sat down with O’Toole to discuss the growing division of partisan lines, whether the Liberals are taking national defence seriously, and the government’s handling of foreign interference.

Plus, with the end of the parliamentary session fast approaching, the Liberals are on the defensive after a number of political missteps. Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino is facing yet another allegation of fumbling his file after public outrage that serial rapist and murderer Paul Bernardo was transferred out of a maximum security prison.
