Swedish Prime Minister Magdalena Andersson sought to provide assurances for Turkey on Monday, which has expressed concerns about both Sweden and Finland’s NATO membership bids.

Andersson said requests for extraditions are handled “swiftly and carefully” by its legal system and that Sweden “is not and will not be a safe haven for terrorists.”

Finland and Sweden applied for NATO membership in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine, but their bids have met with opposition from Turkey over what Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan claims is support for Kurdish military and arms embargoes on Ankara.

Andersson also responded to Turkey’s request for the extradition of people with link’s to the PKK and Gülenist Terror Group. She said such requests would be handled “swiftly and carefully” by the legal system and that Sweden “is not and will not be a safe haven for terrorists.”
