The vaccination of youth against COVID-19 is underway in several provinces as more doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine, approved safe for use for those ages 12-17, arrive in Canada.

But even as more get the jab, there are still concerns about what some consider a one-dose strategy in the short-term for Canadians. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said the country would see a “one-dose summer, two dose-fall,” but some premiers want to buck that idea and aim for a two-dose summer.

A recent CDC study showed a double-dose of Pfizer or Moderna for those over 65 — considered the most vulnerable age group – was 94 per cent effective at preventing hospitalization. Jeff Semple reports on the current strategy and why some experts say it’s time to change tactics.
