Sanctions against Russia are being considered after Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny was given a prison sentence.

A spokesperson for the Kremlin said: "We hope that such a stupid thing as tying Russia-EU relations with the case of this detention centre dweller does not happen."

Navalny said the Russian court's decision was made "to intimidate large numbers of people".
