More than a thousand people are arrested in Russia after the jailing of Kremlin critic Alexei Navalny. Riot police turn out in force in Moscow to prevent people from demonstrating against the court ruling. Witnesses say police used excessive force to detain peaceful protestors. Navalny accuses President Vladimir Putin was trying to intimidate his critics. Earlier, Alexei Navalny was sentenced to three and a half years in prison for violating the terms of his parole. Western governments have condemned the ruling and called for his immediate release.
