Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Western countries of interfering in Ukraine's affairs both directly and covertly in the last decade and of instilling "pseudo-values" into the minds of millions of Ukrainians, leading to "anti-Russia" sentiments in the country.

Speaking on history on Russia's Unity Day, the Russian president also said the West had hammered historical nonsense into the heads of millions of people, including about the real course of World War Two and the Soviet Union's role in the victory over Nazi Germany.

"But this nonsense is repeated in Europe by very respectable people at first glance. They are hammering this rubbish into the heads of millions of people," he said.
