Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed on Tuesday to continue with Russia's year-long war in Ukraine and accused the U.S.-led NATO alliance of fanning the flames of the conflict in the mistaken belief that it could defeat Moscow in a global confrontation.
"The Western elites do not conceal their goals," he said. "It is a direct quote — to bring Russia a strategic defeat. What does it mean? What is it for us? It means to end us, once and for all. It means they plan to turn a local conflict into a global confrontation. We understand it exactly like that. And we will react to it accordingly."
Putin said that the West was supporting "traitors" who opposed Russia's actions, and thanked Russians for their "courage and resolution" in supporting what Moscow calls a "special military operation" in Ukraine.
The Kremlin regularly refers to the government of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as "neo-Nazi" and named the "de-Nazification" of Ukraine as one of the goals of their February 2022 military invention. The West and Ukraine have repeatedly rejected Russia's narrative, calling Russia's invasion of Ukraine an imperial-style land grab doomed to failure.
