Russia President Vladimir Putin has accused the West of "trying to cancel" Russia while citing JK Rowling.

It comes after the author said in a long essay that she was concerned about "the new trans activism... pushing to erode the legal definition of sex and replace it with gender" leading to criticism from trans activists.
