Toronto police have charged a 39-year-old man with two counts of first-degree murder for two separate “random” murders that took place within about 48 hours of each other.

Kartik Vasudev received medical attention by an off-duty paramedic for multiple gunshot wounds on April 7 and was rushed to hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Elijah Eleazar Mahepath was shot two days later as he was walking home. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police have charged Richard Jonathan Edwin with the murders of both men. Catherine McDonald reports.
