Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson and Health Minister Audrey Gordon discussed the province's latest vaccination strategy and efforts on Wednesday. Gordon said she expects Pfizer’s pediatric COVID-19 vaccine to be approved by Health Canada shortly, and said these vaccines are expected to become available in the province as early as a week after approval.

“The time is now to start having family conversations about how vaccination works and about how it helps keep people safe and healthy if you have young children in your home,” said Gordon.

The update comes as the province reported 162 new COVID-19 cases and two additional deaths linked to the coronavirus.

The southern health region of Manitoba has the lowest vaccine uptake in the province and has been a major source of hospitalizations in recent weeks.

Currently, all Manitobans born on or before Dec. 31, 2009 are eligible to be vaccinated and everyone 18 and older is eligible for a third dose.
