UN officials have been meeting military authorities in Mali to plan the exit of more than 12,000 troops before the end of the year.
The military government asked the UN to leave, accusing it of failing to end insecurity. Bamako has sought the help of Russia’s Wagner Group following a surge in attacks by armed groups linked to al-Qaeda, and ISIL (ISIS).
