An Ontario dairy farmer is making waves on social media after he posted a TikTok of him pouring what he said was 30,000 litres of raw milk down the drain.
He said he did so because he couldn't sell the milk, as he had already reached his quota. Under Canada's management supply system, there's no further incentive once you've delivered your limit and as a result, farmers are being asked to dump. While the amount being dumped is perhaps seen as a drop in the bucket overall, with experts saying dairy farmers around the country dump anywhere from 100 million to 300 million litres a year, it still leaves many questioning the system at a time when food prices are putting a pinch on many families.
Sean O'Shea has more on how some say milk is unnecessarily going to waste.
