Hundreds of people gathered outside of the Serbian parliament on Thursday in support of tennis star Novak Djokovic, who is in quarantine in Australia after he had his visa revoked upon his arrival in Melbourne to play in the Australian Open.

Djokovic's father, Srdjan, called on supporters to rally in Belgrade in the coming days.

"Think about it, until Monday they will keep him, the best sportsman in the world, in jail," his father said.

Other Serbian residents in Belgrade also said they supported the tennis star, with one person calling on other players to boycott the tournament.

Djokovic was granted a medical exemption from COVID-19 vaccination requirements to compete, but was detained on Thursday by officials at the border. Djokovic has consistently refused his vaccination status while publicly criticizing mandatory vaccines.
