National Cinema Day: $4 movie tickets offered across North America

Thousands of movie theatres across Canada and the United States offered $4 movie tickets to celebrate National Cinema Day on Sunday for the second year.

The Movie Theatre Association of Canada and the U.S.-based Cinema Foundation teamed up for the offer as the industry was beginning to recover from the pandemic.

The steep discount comes as two of the biggest movies of the year remain in theatres. 'Barbie' and 'Oppenheimer' broke box office records and the industry is hoping to keep the momentum going.

Admission is back to normal on Monday, with VIP tickets costing more than double the price of a bag of popcorn. Global's Joe Scarpelli has more on the rare opportunity for a cheap night out.
