Public Safety Minister Marco Mendicino called on Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre to be briefed on top-secret documents, saying he wasn’t taking the issue of Chinese interference allegations “seriously,” during question period on Monday.

Poilievre repeated his assertions Monday in the House of Commons that he “refuses to be silenced” and said the briefings being offered by the Liberal government were “fake.” He also called for David Johnston to be fired as special rapporteur and for a public inquiry to be announced.

“The government will not pull me into a room, stamp public documents secret and then tell me I can’t speak,” he said.

“Because we need to speak about the fact that Beijing interfered to help the prime minister in two successive elections, that Beijing threatened members of parliament to try and win influence and that Beijing gave $140,000 to the Trudeau foundation to try to buy the favour of this prime minister.”

Poilievre also called on NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh to “break off” his party’s confidence-and-supply agreement with the Liberal government unless they promise to hold a public inquiry.
