La Palma volcano: Drone video shows new lava stream reaching island beach

Drone footage released by the La Palma local government on Tuesday showed a lava stream from the Cumbre Vieja volcano reaching Los Guirres beach after falling from a cliff.

Los Guirres beach, in the town of Tazacorte, is between the delta of lava in the ocean and another stream that has stopped its way into the ocean.

Authorities said it was unclear whether the recent lava stream on the beach was going to create a new delta of lava or if it would join the existing one.

Local authorities said seismicity and the emission of sulphur dioxide from volcano are continuing their downward trend.

Lava has destroyed more than 2,000 properties on the island since the Cumbre Vieja volcano began erupting in mid-September and thousands more have fled their homes as a precaution, prompting the government last month to pledge 225 million euros in aid.
