Lt Col Richard Hecht, the international spokesperson for Israel Defence Forces has told Sky News that fighting on the ground is continuing in Israel following the incursion by Hamas militants this morning.

He added: "We want all people that came into Israel to be dead, that's our goal".

Hamas fighters have crossed the border into Israel after an early morning barrage of rockets from the Gaza Strip. Israel has called up reservists and is striking targets in Gaza as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu says "we are at war".
