Israel said Sunday it would pause fighting during daytime hours along a route in southern Gaza to allow more aid into the besieged enclave.

The “tactical pause” applies to a 12-kilometre stretch of road in the Rafah area, but falls short of a complete ceasefire – something the international community has been calling for.

It could help address some of the overwhelming needs of Palestinians that have surged in recent weeks with Israel’s incursion in Rafah.

But as Redmond Shannon reports, aid agencies say the only solution to stop the suffering in Gaza is a permanent ceasefire.
