A shortcut through a fence was fixed on Tuesday as an investigation into how a four-year-old child was struck and killed by a passing GO Train continues.

According to police, officers were called to the train tracks in Mississauga, Ont. after the child had been struck and was pronounced dead at the scene. Multiple witnesses told Global News there was an opening in the fence that many residents used as a shortcut to get to Dundas Street, instead of walking "all the way around."

Erica Vella spoke with one witness who was at the scene shortly after the child was killed, and reports on what area residents want to be done.
