Indigenous woman says impromptu song after Pope's apology was mistaken for "O Canada"

When Pope Francis' apology to residential school survivors in Maskwacis, Alta. came to an end, a lone voice could be heard singing in an anguished tone over the crowd in Cree a song that sounded similar to "O Canada."

But while it resonated with people around the world and was not part of the program, the singer says it's being mistaken for the national anthem.

Si Pih Ko told Global News it was "our village in our language of the Four Winds," adding it's "O Canada" but translated for their anthem in an older dialect of the Four Winds.
