'I'm really confident it's going to work,' says Tory MP on migration plans

Conservative MP Brendan Clarke-Smith has said he is really confident the Home Secretary's migration plans will work despite repeated promises made by former Prime Ministers.

He said: "People have got a right to question that... but these are actually good, solid proposals. We are simply not going to give those visas out to people who want to come over as dependents."

Mr Clarke-Smith also said today's announcement should see net migration drop by half next year.
