The education secretary has told Sky News the government will "consider" whether to scrap the two-child benefit cap.

Labour refused to say during the general election whether the cap would be abolished.

Bridget Phillipson told Sky News the move would be "very expensive" and the Conservative Party had "wrecked the economy".

"We are aware of the evidence around this, and as part of the review that we will conduct in the coming months we will consider that as part of a number of ways... in terms of how we can lift children out of poverty," she said.
